Roger L. Scott, Sr., 85, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan.

Roger was born on July 20, 1934 in Vincentown, NJ, on a dairy farm that his father worked on. He and his younger brother lived on the farm until moving as a teenager to Haden Heights, NJ. After high school, Roger worked for Campbell Soup Co. for some time. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1954. In 1955, he was united in marriage to Diane Swank in Morocco, North Africa. They were stationed all over the United States and also spent two years in Turkey. After he retired from the service, they settled down in Sullivan, where they raised their five children. Roger worked for Peterson Oil Co. for more than 40 years, where he earned the title, Top Dog. Roger loved to play sports; he was very involved in the Sullivan fast pitch softball for many years. When he could no longer play softball, he became an umpire, which kept him very busy for a number of years. Roger was just as enthusiastic about bowling; he is in the MO bowler’s hall of fame. While never bowling a sanctioned 300 game, he did manage to bowl 299 on three different occasions. He was also proud to have bowled two high series of over 800. He was always an athlete at heart. Roger and Diane had a fond attachment to dachshund dogs. They had many of them over the years. Roger began attending New Testament Church in the early 1990’s. He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and became very involved in his church. He worked in the bus ministry for 17 years, was a part of the choir, and was even the greeter at his church until just a few years ago. Roger will be lovingly remembered and missed by his family and friends.
