Roberta Scott Mason

Roberta A. Mason, 92, of Sullivan, Missouri passed a way on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Life Care Center of Sullivan.

Roberta was born on July 3, 1925 to the late Robert W. and Anna L. (Mundy) Scott in Cuba, Missouri. She grew up and attended school in Cuba and went on to further her education at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO where she obtained her Master’s Degree in teaching. On July 14, 1949, Roberta was united in marriage to John Mason, Sr. and they made their home in Sullivan. She was a lifelong educator; teaching at Sunnyside Country School, Sullivan School District and Special School District of St. Louis. She retired from Special School District in 1983. Roberta loved golf and was a member of the Sullivan Country Club; she even hit “a hole in one.” She also found pleasure in camping, traveling and time with her family and friends.

Roberta was very active in her community; she was a member of Temple Baptist Church for many years. She was also a member of the Firettes (a group for firemen’s wives) for fifty years, as well as the Order of Eastern Star in Sullivan, Chapter No. 105.She will be missed dearly by her family and close friends.

Roberta is survived by her stepson, John Mason, Jr. and wife Jean of Sullivan, MO; special nieces, Marva Halbert and husband Denny McClintock of St. Charles, MO; Susan Estes and husband Scott of Rogersville, MO; two grandchildren, John C. Mason, III of Dallas, TX; Ryan James Mason and special friend Brittany of Sullivan, MO; she was also a special Nana to Scott M. Halbert and Carson J. McClintock of St. Charles, MO; numerous nieces and nephews; relatives and friends.

Roberta was preceded in death by her husband, John Sr.; parents, Robert W. and Anna L. (Mundy) Scott; three siblings, James E. Scott, Joseph T. Scott and Birdie Lou Halbert; and daughter-in-law, Penny Jo (Heuer) Mason.

Funeral services were to be conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, October 22, 2017 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri with Pastor Scott Perry officiating.

Visitation was to be held from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, October 22, 2017 at the Eaton Funeral Home.

Memorial Contributions to the Challenge to Build Fund at Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan are appreciated.
