Richard Burnett, age 57, of Bourbon, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

Richard Irvin was born on February 27, 1961 in Washington, Missouri, to Melvin Erni and Edith Louise (Richters) Burnett. He attended and graduated from Bourbon High School, Class of 1979. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Missouri Columbia. Richard was employed by Monsanto for a time, then by Edward Jones and Morgan Stanley as a financial advisor.

After the death of his father, Richard returned home to run the family farm. This allowed him to return to his roots and reignite the love for his homestead. Richard also enjoyed reading, especially Stephen King and Lord of the Ring. He was a distinguished story teller and cook, barbecue being his specialty. Richard was loved by his family and will be missed by them and all who called him friend.

Richard is survived by his children, Derek Burnett and wife Madison of Kearney, MO, and Madeline Burnett of Springfield, MO; his mother, Edith (Richters) Burnett of Bourbon, MO; two sisters, Gay Cunningham and significant other, Ross Pulvere, of St. George, UT, and Deborah Sampson and husband Dennis of Salem, IL; his special Shepard dog, Bud; nieces & nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Burnett; brother, Thomas Burnett; brother-in-law, Gary Cunningham; paternal grandparents, Orville and Opal Burnett; and maternal grandparents, Walter and Viola Richters.

Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m., Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, with Pastor Ed Carter as the officiant. Interment followed in Bourbon Cemetery.

Visitation was held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, October 19, 2018 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan and from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the Eaton Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the charity of the family’s choice are appreciated.

All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home of Sullivan & Bourbon, MO.
