Opal was christened Presbyterian, later became a Baptist, but most of her church service was as a Methodist. She met Fred Rohrer of Bourbon, the son of Jake and Elizabeth Rohrer and they were married on November 19, 1939. They had nearly 50 years of marriage together before the Lord called Fred home. Both Opal and Fred were teachers and partners in several local businesses. Opal was a member of the Methodist church for 60 years. Over the years she held many offices and done much church work. She was on the Pastoral Committee for nearly twenty years. She was a youth leader and president of the women’s group. Opal was instrumental in organizing a World Day of Prayer and through her efforts as many as 10 churches took part. For years, she had charge of serving the funeral dinners for bereaved families. She was a teacher, Cub Scout leader, Sunday school teacher and enjoyed playing bridge and pinochle. Opal was an interesting person, always full of ideas and enthusiasm, ready to take on anything she believes to be a Christian service. You might remember Opal as the lady you would meet on the street or receive a card with a $2 bill or the balloon lady/grandma.
