Nora J. Dacus

Nora J.  Dacus, age 89, of Bourbon, MO, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at Delmar Gardens of Chesterfield. 

Nora Jane was born on January 25, 1930 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of George and Nora Jane (Atwood) Winkle. She grew up and attended school in St. Louis and went to work at Lindy’s Grocery. On January 31, 1948, Nora was united in marriage to Thomas Bligh and to this union five children were born: Joanne, Susan, Carol, Thomas, Jr. and Mary. They raised their family in Florissant, MO. Nora and Thomas were later divorced. Nora was employed for many years at Schnuck’s Grocery. She became the first female manager for the store in 1967. Nora was united in marriage to David Dacus on October 4, 1969, in Clayton, MO. She inherited a daughter, Donna, and later, Nora and Dave had a son together, whom they named David. Dave and Nora owned and operated Dave’s Donuts and Coffee Shop until their retirement in 1989.  She and Dave moved to Sullivan for a time, and then they made their permanent home in Bourbon. Nora was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Cuba.  She enjoyed quilting and traveling. Nora will be lovingly remembered and missed by her family and friends.

Nora is survived by her children, Joanne Noascono of Washington, MO, Susan Layton and husband, Robert, of St. Peters, MO, Carol Bligh and wife, Cindy Poirier, of Sorrento, FL, Thomas Bligh and wife, Debbie, of Charleston, SC, Mary Kopas of St. Louis, MO, Donna Guyre and husband, John, of Hazelwood, MO, David Dacus and wife, Rachel, of Arnold, MO, and great grandson, Ethan Hartman, of the family home; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, Coen Perkins; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Dacus; her parents, George and Nora Jane (Atwood) Winkle; three brothers, Walter, George, Jr. and Paul Winkle; and one sister, Catherine Ifland. 

A Funeral Mass was celebrated 10 a.m., Friday, May 17, 2019 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Sullivan, with Father Paul Telken as the officiant. Interment followed in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. 

Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m., Thursday, May 16, 2019 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
