Noel E. Vieten, age 78, of Leslie, MO, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2019 at Hermann Hospital in Hermann, MO.

Noel Emery was born on October 26, 1940 in Leslie, MO, the son of Emery and Hazel (Bell) Vieten. He was born on his family’s farm, where he was raised and continued to live until his passing. Noel attended school in Spring Bluff and Sullivan, graduating High School in 1958. He was very involved in Franklin County 4H during his youth and continued to serve in many areas of their program, including participating on the judging team. Noel purchased his first tractor when he was in the 8th grade and paid for it himself.  He attended and graduated from the University of Missouri in Columbia, where he met a young lady, Mary Bruns. They dated through college and on a very hot day in 1962, graduated together. Noel with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture and Mary with a Teaching Degree. Noel and Mary were united in marriage on May 12, 1962 and they were blessed with three sons:  David, Benjamin and John. Noel continued working in the family Dairy business until 1999, when he moved on to Beef cattle. Noel attended and was a long-time member of Evergreen Baptist Church in Leslie. 

Mr. Vieten was a very active member of the Farm Bureau for 49 years, the Guernsey Breeders Association, Awarded State Farmer in FFA, served on the Dairy Judging team for FFA and Missouri University and awarded Franklin County Farm Family of the year in 1971. He and his family attended and showed cows in many county fairs in the area, including Cuba, Washington, Sullivan, New Haven, Springfield and the Sedalia State Fair.  

Noel was a loving son, brother, husband, father and family man. He was a hardworking man who supported his community and loved living and working on the farm. He enjoyed traveling to farm conventions and vacationing with Mary and the boys.  

Noel is survived by his wife, Mary (Bruns) Vieten of Leslie, MO; three sons:  David Vieten and wife, Shelly, of Sullivan, MO, Benjamin Vieten of Leslie, MO, and John Vieten (Beth Bailey) of Leslie, MO; three step-grandchildren:  Jennifer Moreland and husband, Joe, of Cuba, MO, Chloe Griffith of Columbia, MO, and Calie Griffith of Sullivan, MO; two step-great-grandchildren, Lexi and Aiden Moreland; two sisters, Eunice Campbell of Columbia, MO, and Dolores Bell Williams and husband, Charles, of Sunrise Beach, MO; many nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emery and Hazel Vieten; and two brothers-in-law, John Campbell and Cordell Bruns. 

Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m., Friday, August 2, 2019 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery in Leslie, MO. 

Visitation was held from 4:30-8 p.m., Thursday, August 1, 2019 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. 

Memorial contributions may be made to: Evergreen Baptist Church or Evergreen Cemetery in Leslie.
