Mason Kirk, age 18, of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2018 due to injuries sustained from a motor vehicle accident.

Mason Cole Kirk was born April 13, 2000 in Washington, Missouri, the son of Edward and Amy (Cuneio) Kirk. He grew up and attended school in Sullivan and was set to graduate with the 2019 class this coming spring. Upon graduation, Mason was planning to attend college to major in Education where he would one day become a teacher.

Music was a key part of his life, beginning at an early age. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where he participated in the children’s programs and choir performance as a child. Mason was baptized and confirmed as he grew older and continued active involvement at the church through youth group and many mission trips. His church family was dear to him and his family. Mason’s love for music continued to grow through the years. Most recently, he played baritone and trombone. He would have liked to pursue the Drum Corp in the years ahead. Mason also enjoyed singing with the varsity choir “Bel Canto.” He served as Sullivan Band Brass Captain, Choir Section Leader, as well as, the Scholar Bowl Captain.

Aside from all of his musical talents, Mason will be remembered for his big heart and servant leadership attitude. He always went the extra mile for others and was willing to lend a helping hand. He especially enjoyed helping on his grandparent’s farm. Mason was a hard worker and dedicated to the things he put his mind to. He always had a smile and loved to make others laugh with his goofy sense of humor. He will be missed by his family and many, many friends.

Mason is survived by his mother, Amy Garner and husband Doug of Sullivan; his father, Edward Kirk and wife Tori of Sullivan; seven brothers & sisters, Edward “Lucas” Kirk, Mitchell Douglas Garner, Kathlynn “Kate” Grace Garner, Maximus Morgan Kirk, Alexis “Lexi” Marie Garner, Rosalyn “Rosie” Grace Williams and Bradley Ross Williams; grandparents, Jim and Linda Cuneio of Sullivan, and Clay Kirk of Pacific; aunts and uncles, David Cuneio of Sullivan, Dave Garner and wife Christina of Sullivan, Pairote Kirk and wife Melinda of Sullivan, Joshua Kirk of Waynesville, MO, and Anne McDonald and husband Chris of Havelock, NC; and numerous cousins, relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Don & Diane Garner; great grandparents, William & Helen Cuneio, Vernon & Alma Beckett, and Norman and Betty Steele.

Visitation was held from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the Sullivan High School Theater.

Funeral Services were conducted 2 p.m., Saturday, September 22, 2018 at the Sullivan High School Theater. Pastors Steve Williams, Maggie Gann and Donna Schofield-Dolle officiated. Interment followed in Schmidt Cemetery in rural Sullivan.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Encore Music Boosters of Sullivan High School.
