Mary McCoy

Mary McCoy, 88, of Sullivan, MO passed away Sunday, October 11, 2020 at St. Clair Nursing Center.

Mary Ellen was born in Columbia, MO on February 26, 1932, to the late Oscar Franklin and Mary Alice (Rodhouse) Barnhardt. She graduated from Hickman High School in Columbia and then went on to take classes at East Central College in Union. Mary was married to Neal Stanley McCoy on September 9, 1950 and had four sons: Stephen, Michael, Mark and Gary. Mary was employed by Paco in Washington for some time, and later as a secretary for the Bank of Union. 

Mary was a good Christian woman and an accomplished pianist, who played for both Evergreen Baptist Church and later Cave Spring Baptist Church. She was a good cook and was known for her Sunday dinner of roast beef. She also picked and canned all of the vegetables from Neal’s large gardens. The kitchen was a hive of activity on picklin’ day. A devoted mother and grandmother, she always put others first and lived for her family. She will be remembered above all for her kindness and love for everyone that knew her. 

Mary is survived by three of her sons: Steve McCoy of Leslie, MO, Michael McCoy of Sullivan  and Gary McCoy and wife, Nicole, of Sullivan; seven grandchildren: Emily Giery and husband, Thomas, of Wentzville, MO, Rachelle McCoy and husband, Josh, of Austin, TX, Jessica McCoy of Maplewood, MO, Ashley McCoy of AK, Cole McCoy and wife, Ashley, of Sullivan, MO, Karl McCoy and wife, Taylir, of Pacific, MO, and McKenna McCoy of Creve Coeur, MO; five great-grandchildren: Landen Doza, Wyatt, Dylan, Brooklyn and Keaton McCoy; one brother, Frank Barnhardt of Grants Pass, OR; one sister, Ruth Ann Aldag of KS; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Neal McCoy; one son, Mark McCoy; and her parents, Oscar and Mary Barnhardt. 

Funeral services were conducted 12 p.m., Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at the Eaton Funeral Home, with Pastor Brian Dixon officiating. Interment will follow in Old Cave Spring Cemetery in Sullivan.

Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Wednesday, prior to the service at Eaton Funeral Home. 

Memorial contributions in Mary’s name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. 

All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Sullivan.
