Loney ‘Joe’ Cox

Loney “Joe” Cox, age 73, of Sullivan, MO, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2018 at his home. 

Joe was born on November 27, 1944 in Washington, MO, to Charles L. and Ethel M. (Reed) Cox. He grew up and attended school in Anaconda, MO. After a brief stint at Chrysler Corporation, Joe was drafted into the United States Army. He served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged. Joe then returned to Chrysler and continued a lengthy career there. He retired in 2005, after 40 years of service. Joe was united in marriage to Mary F. Hammock in Steelville, MO, on June 5, 1970. To this union, 3 children were born, Evertt, Kathy and Stacey. Joe enjoyed time spent with his family, taking long drives, his tractors, hunting and gigging.  He will be missed by his family and friends. 

Joe is survived by his wife, Mary F. (Hammock) Cox of Sullivan; three children, Evertt Cox and wife Heather of Sullivan, Kathy Ogle and husband Gary of Marthasville, MO, and Stacey Cox and husband Darrell Beers of Sullivan; five grandchildren, Darrion Blankenship, Garrick Ogle, Hannah Cox, Kadenn Beers and Rhett Cox; one great granddaughter, Tatum Ogle; three brothers, Carl (Sonny) Cox of St. Clair, David Cox and wife Charlene of St. Clair, and Wayne Thurmond of Highland, IL; other relatives and many friends. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Cox; his stepfather, Orris Thurmond; his mother, Ethel Thurmond; one brother, Donald Cox; and two sisters, Shirley and Carlyss Cox.
