Lester Clemons Engel

Lester C. Engel, 91, of Sullivan, MO, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at the Life Care Center of Sullivan.

Lester was born on June 2, 1926, son of the late Arthur and Pearl (Schantz) Engel of St. Louis, MO. He grew up and attended school in St. Louis. At 18 years old, he enlisted and honorably served his country in the United States Army. Les was honorably discharged in 1946. In 1950, he met and married Virginia Marvin in Sullivan. Les and Virginia settled in Sullivan and began their family. They had one beautiful daughter, Ruth Ellen. Les worked for the Nieman’s Tool & Dye Co., as well as Chrysler. He retired in 1992. Les and Virginia enjoyed traveling in their RV for several years; he also enjoyed woodworking.

Les is survived by his granddaughter, Stephanie Bonney and husband, George, of Sullivan, MO; two brothers, Arthur Engel of Barnhardt, MO; Robert Engel and wife, Eleanor, of St. Louis, MO; one sister, Doris Riel of St. Louis, MO; three great grandchildren, Faith, Kaylee and George Bonney; son-in-law, Wayne Collins; other family members and friends.

Les was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (Marvin) Engel, one daughter, Ruth Ellen Collins; his parents, Arthur and Pearl (Schantz)Engel and one sister, Dee Engel.
