Kenneth W. Summers, 82, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2020 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital – St. Louis.

Kenneth Wayne Summers was born in Sullivan, MO, March 31, 1938, to the late John Rush and Dora Syble (Harmon) Summers. He graduated from Sullivan High School, Class of 1956. Kenneth then entered into the United States Navy, serving four years before being honorably discharged. During his service, he was an interior communications electrician on the USS Trumpetfish submarine. 

Kenneth was united in marriage to Nora Cadenhead in 1962, and to this union one daughter was born, Lisa Ann. Kenneth and Nora were later divorced. 

Kenneth was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone for several years, retiring in 1991. He was then self-employed for several years thereafter. Kenneth was united in marriage to Janice Keeney Maxey on May 20, 2004, and they have resided in Sullivan together ever since. They enjoyed taking cruises together, as well as trips through Sullivan Bank, and attending flea markets. 

Ken also enjoyed gardening, Cardinal’s Baseball and watching College Basketball. He was a member of New Testament Baptist Church and the local Masonic Lodge. Ken will be lovingly remembered and missed by many.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Janice Summers, of Sullivan, MO; one daughter, Lisa Ann Haywood and husband, Brian, of St. Charles, MO; three grandchildren: Evan, Courtney and Madelyn Haywood, all of St. Charles, MO; Janice’s daughters, Deanna Fitzgerald and husband, Scott, of Washington, MO, and Lisa Donovan and husband, Jim, of Weeki Wachee, FL; Janice’s grandchildren: Cara Fitzgerald, Brandon Fitzgerald, Jimmy Donovan and Dylan Donovan; and other relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dora Summers; and one brother, Kelley Summers. 

Cremation arrangements have taken place. Due to COVID, the Summers family will be having a private Celebration of Life Gathering, for family only, on Friday, January 8, 2021 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. Any family attending will be required to wear a mask. Mr. Summers’ cremated remains will then be inurned in the columbarium at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery Fort Leonard Wood.
