Josephine T. Guasto, 93, of Sullivan, MO, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 15, 2020 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis.

Josephine Theresa was born in St. Louis, MO, on September 1, 1926, to Joseph and Frances (Reina) Anselmo. She grew up and attended Normandy High School. Josephine was united in marriage to Andrew Guasto on May 1, 1949, at Our Lady Help of Christians Church in St. Louis, MO. To their union five children were born: Leonarda, Andrew, Joseph, Peter and John. Andrew and Josephine were blessed with 60 years of marriage together. Andrew passed away at the age of 89 in October 2009.

Josephine worked for the St. Louis County Library for many years, as well as a sales clerk for 20 years. She was a wonderful homemaker and loved to cook. She loved animals very much and was able to help raise and take care of many farm animals with her husband from their homes in Arcadia and St. Clair. Josephine had quite the green thumb, as she enjoyed taking care of her flowers, plants and gardens. She enjoyed reading and doing embroidery work. Josephine was a very devoted Catholic and parishioner of St. Anthony for 25 years. After she was unable to attend church, she would watch mass everyday and say the rosary. Sister Joann and Father Telken would bring communion to her.

Josephine was a very active, kind and giving person all of her life. She was a caretaker for her own siblings for many years. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She had many friendships during her lifetime – many cousins, aunts and uncles. She was loved very much by all who knew her and will truly be missed. May she rest in peace thru Jesus Christ.

Josephine is survived by her five children: Leonarda “Lee” Guasto of Sullivan, Andrew Guasto of Los Angeles, CA, Joseph Guasto and wife Teresa of Villa Ridge, MO, Peter Guasto and wife, Patricia of Las Vegas, NV, and John Guasto and wife Mina of Burke, VA; nine grandchildren: Michelle Jones, Jason Hovis, Mariah Hovis, Staci Dallenbach, Christina Threeton, Samantha Guasto, Anna Kemner, Sarah Guasto and Nirund Surapak; eight great-grandchildren: Kayla Hovis, Kodie Jones, Kasey Jones, Kelly Jones, Caleb Hovis, Jeremiah Kenner, Justin Kenner and Brittany Loeks; three great-great-grandchildren: Ella Marie Hovis, Ethan Loeks and Francis Kemner; cousins: Marianne Morici of St. Peters, MO, Sarah Greaves of St. Charles, MO, and Jim Altadonna of St. Louis, MO; sister-in-law, Patricia Guasto of Wentzville, MO; nephews and niece: Jim Nania, Linda Bommarito, & Jim Guasto; and other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Guasto; her parents, Joseph and Frances Anselmo; grandparents, Bernard and Josephine Reina and Jerome and Rosaria Anselmo; two sisters, Rosaria Anselmo and Frances Anselmo; two brothers, Bernard A. and Jerome A. Anselmo; her in-laws, Vincent and Lena (Isnello) Guasto; brothers and sisters-in-law: Joseph Guasto, Sara Colevecchio and husband, Phil, and Jake Nania and wife, Ann; and a daughter in law, Lek Guasto. 

Funeral Mass was held 12:30 p.m., Friday, August 21, 2020 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, with Father Tim Henderson officiating. Interment was follow in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Sullivan.

Visitation was held from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Friday, August 21, 2020 at Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.

Memorial contributions in Josephine’s memory may be made to ASPCA – American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
