John A. McCulloch
John A. McCulloch, age 61, of Sullivan, MO, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2018.
John Arden was born on February 10, 1957 to Billy Ray and Bernice Ann (King) McCulloch in St. Louis, MO. He grew up in the Japan area and attended Holy Martyrs Grade School and graduated from Sullivan High School, Class of 1975. John also took some classes at East Central College. He was employed in the 70’s and 80’s in river surveying/sounding. For 27 years, John was employed as a construction inspector for MODOT.
On November 29, 1980, he was united in marriage to Kathy Gaskill at St. Anthony Catholic Church and they were blessed with 2 children, David and Lindsey. John was involved in the Sullivan Boys Baseball Association as an officer and coach. He also coached for the Sullivan Girls Softball Association. He looked forward to one day coaching again. John was an avid and lifelong St. Louis Cardinals and Mizzou Football fan. He enjoyed attending Opening Day with his family every year and was proud to have made the last 33 Opening Days. He also enjoyed fishing, jugging for fish on the Missouri River, hunting, playing cards and board games, art projects, and family gatherings. He was a longtime member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus. John was a kind and loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend. He will be lovingly remembered by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy (Gaskill) McCulloch of Sullivan; two children, David McCulloch and wife Victoria of Sullivan, Lindsey Reichart and husband Thomas of Jefferson City, MO; two grandchildren, Lexi and Blake McCulloch; honorary grandchild, Maddie “McCulloch” Mallory; four brothers, Mike McCulloch and wife Nancy, Scott McCulloch and wife Donna, Jim McCulloch and wife Lisa, Paul McCulloch and wife Caren, all of Sullivan; his mother-in-law, June Gaskill of Sullivan; sister-in-law, Patricia Strothcamp of Sullivan; brother-in-law, Dennis Gaskill and wife Sandy of Sullivan; nieces and nephews, Leslie Borgmeyer, Erin Crume and husband Reggie, Amanda, Derek, Stephanie and Brandon McCulloch, Jaida and Aidan Cain, Piper and Ryan McCulloch, Erin Smith and husband Kyle, Daniel Strothcamp and wife Adriana, Cassie Gaskill and husband Gabe; many great nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Bernice (King) McCulloch; brother, Jerry McCulloch; father-in-law, Louis “Bud” Gaskill; and brother-in-law, David Strothcamp.
A funeral mass was celebrated 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Sullivan with Father Paul Telken and Deacon Kevin Miller officiating. Interment held at a later date in St. Anthony Cemetery in Sullivan.
Visitation was held from 3:30-8 p.m., Monday, July 16, 2018 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
