John M. Lyons, Jr., known as Jack, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at his home with his wife by his side. 

Jack was born on March 4, 1934 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of John and Lillian (Kinney) Lyons. He grew up in St. Louis and attended Catholic grade school, as well as high school. Jack served as a Buck Sergeant in the United States Marines for three years. Jack was united in marriage to Carolyn Meston on September 19, 1959 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in North St. Louis City. They were blessed to be able to adopt two wonderful children, Kirk and Kelly. Jack was a hard-working man. He worked in the warehouse at Proctor and Gamble Company for 39 years, from which he retired. Jack then went to work for Hewlett-Packard Company in West County. He and Carolyn lived in North and West St. Louis County until 2002, when they built a home in Sullivan.

Jack was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. He was also a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus in Sullivan, where he served in the office of the council and helped at many fish fries.

Jack was a Pontiac man and loved each and every one of the Pontiac’s that he owned through the years. He loved many sports, including bowling, and enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Blues on T.V. Jack had a wonderful sense of humor and was a very fun and loving husband. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing games on the computer. Jack will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. 

Jack is survived by his wife, Carolyn Lyons of Sullivan, MO; daughter, Kelly Woodring and husband, Mark, of Bardstown, KY; two brothers, Russell Lyons of Mt. Airy, NC and Michael Lyons and wife, Alice, of St. Louis, MO; one grandchild, Mark Woodring II; many nephews, one niece, many good church friends and good neighbors. 

He was preceded in death by his son, Kirk Lyons; and his parents, John and Lillian Lyons.

A private memorial service will be held Thursday, April 30, 2020 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. Cremation will take place and Jack’s cremains will be laid to rest at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
