John E. Thurmond
ohn E. Thurmond, age 77, of Sullivan, MO, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Meramec Nursing Center in Sullivan.
John Edward was born on December 28, 1940 to the late William Henry and Blanche (Rogers) Thurmond, in Richwoods, MO. He was one of 13 children. John was united in marriage to Shirley Hendrix on October 26, 1963 in Union, MO. He was self-employed and owned and operated John’s Mobile Home Service. John was a hard worker and a prankster at heart. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. John enjoyed spending time at his cabin with family, fishing, four wheeling, hunting, woodworking, blackberry picking and mushroom hunting. John was known for his beautiful Christmas light display, playing Santa and his Spirit of giving to others. He also loved the St. Louis Cardinals, going to auctions and dumpster diving. He will be remembered for his kind and loving heart and will be missed by his family and friends.
John is survived by his wife, Shirley M. (Hendrix) Thurmond of Sullivan; two daughters, Lisa Heidbrier and husband, Wes of Sullivan, MO and Madonna Whitford of Stanton, MO; special niece, Becky Siewing and husband, Tim and their children, Tori, Tia and TJ Siewing, and Karley Weston of Malta, MT; one brother, Leo Thurmond of Richwoods, MO; one sister, Shirley Butler and husband, Don of Farmington, MO; eight grandchildren, Kevin DeBrecht of Nixa, MO, Stephanie Johnson and husband, Brandon of Sullivan, MO, Jared Heidbrier and wife, Raye of TX, Ryan Heidbrier and wife, Kimberly of UT, Donneta Whitford of Sullivan, MO, Nathan Whitford and wife, Melissa of Sullivan, MO, Cody Dunn and wife, Alice of Leasburg, MO and Mikayla Whitford of Stanton, MO; fifteen great-grandchildren; numerous other nieces and nephews, relatives and many friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry and Blanche (Rogers) Thurmond; ten brothers and sisters, Virginia Barton, Frank, Robert and Alberta Thurmond, Louis, Lester and Oscar Thurmond, Nellie Heads, Oscar Thurmond, Arlene Duncan and Carl Thurmond.
Visitation was held from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
Funeral Services were conducted 1 p.m., Tuesday, at the Eaton Funeral Home with Pastors Terry Palmer and Allen Duda officiating. Interment followed in Horine Cemetery in Richwoods, MO.
