Jerry L. Cox, 69, of Battlefield, MO, formerly of Sullivan, MO, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2020 in Battlefield, MO.

Jerry Lee was born on May 23, 1950 in East St. Louis, IL, the son of Robert Lee Cox, Jr. and Mildred (Woodard) Cox. He grew up and attended high school in Collinsville, IL. Jerry’s first job was at a Bakos Drug Store. He worked several different jobs through the years, including Norfold and Western Railroad and Roto-Die in Eureka, from which he retired. Jerry was united in marriage to Paula Jean Tongay on November 24, 1970 at the Church of Nazarene in Collinsville, IL. They were blessed with five children: Stephanie, Kelly, Sheri, Matthew and Cassandra. Jerry and Paula divorced in 1987. Jerry was a son, father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and riding his Harley. He will be missed by his family and friends.

Jerry is survived by four children: Stephanie Johanning of Bourbon, MO, Kelly Wright of Marshfield, MO, Matthew Cox of Battlefield, MO, and Cassandra Cox of Battlefield, MO; five grandchildren:  Megan, Joshua and Lauren Johanning, Jillian Hillman, and Shaelynn Tompkins; two sisters, Barbara “Barb” Mosier of Collinsville, IL, and Patricia “Pat” Maddlino of Collinsville, IL; one brother, Kerry Cox of Gardner, KS; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sheri Cox; his parents, Robert Lee Cox, Jr. and Mildred (Woodard) Cox; and one nephew, Danny Cox.

A Celebration of Life Gathering was held 3-5 p.m., Friday, January 31, 2020 at Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO.
