Jerry Carey, 83, of Sullivan, Missouri passed away Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at his home on Carey Lane.

Jerry Ray Joseph Carey was born on April 21, 1934 in St. Louis, Missouri to Joseph Anthony and Elsie Elizabeth (Reitz) Carey. He attended the Miller grade school and Sullivan High School class of 1951. Jerry honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. It was in the military that he learned about electronics. After coming home from the Army, Jerry worked in T.V. Repair for his mother and stepfather, John Figone. On November 6, 1954, Jerry was united in marriage to Viva Lou Key at St. Anthony Catholic Church and they were blessed with five children: Cathy, Debbie, Alan, Randy and Tammy. In 1962, Jerry and Viva Lou purchased the family business, Jerry’s T.V., operations started and has continued as a Sullivan fixture into the present. Jerry loved his family and faithfully attended all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s sporting events. He coached little league baseball for many years and enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, camping, family float trips and many family fun days by their pool. Jerry also loved dancing with Viva Lou. Jerry was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3781 and St. Anthony Catholic Church.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Viva Lou (Key) Carey of Sullivan; five children, Cathy Schatz and husband Terry; Debbie Senters and husband Brad; Alan Carey and wife Patti; Randy Carey and wife Cindy; and Tammy Rohrer and husband Brian all of Sullivan; 15 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild on the way; one sister, Lolita Figone Borchering and husband Brad of New Haven, MO; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Anthony and Elsie Elizabeth (Reitz) Figone; and his sister, Catherine “Dolly” Chapman.

Funeral Mass was celebrated 11 a.m., Monday, November 13, 2017 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Sullivan. Interment followed in St. Anthony Cemetery with full military honors.

Visitation was held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, November 12, 2017 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
