Jean Brewer Chandler was born in Sullivan, MO, on August 28, 1928 and passed away on June 28, 2019 in San Diego, CA. Her parents were John and Lillie Brewer. She graduated from Sullivan High School in 1946 and attended Missouri University.

She and Rolla E. (Spud) Chandler attended high school together, were engaged when they started college, and married in June 1949. Since Spud worked for the Bureau of Land Management, they moved to many areas of the country as Spud was promoted. Jean was a homemaker and enjoyed their new adventures although it was sometimes a challenge to move the family around the country. They finished their working years in Arlington, VA, when Spud worked in Washington D.C. After his retirement, they returned to Sullivan, MO. When Spud died on December 28, 2001, Jean later moved near her son John in San Diego.

Jean and Spud had three sons and one daughter: John Chandler (deceased) and wife Kirsten of San Diego, CA; Lynn Gelman and husband David of Arlington, VA (daughter Samantha); Mark Chandler and wife Kathryn of Fitchburg, WI; and one son David (deceased).

One brother Leo Brewer Sr. of Sullivan and many nieces and nephews survive Jean.

Preceding Jean in death were the following, all of Sullivan: brother Floyd; sister Minnie Dill (Bud); sister Anna Mae Kramer (Max); sister Edna Tayloe; brother Clarence Brewer (Edith); sister Marie Rehmert; sister-in-law Virginia Brewer.

Jean was an avid reader of both novels and history, and she loved eating apples while she read.  She and Spud collected antiques all their lives, and they filled their home with them. Christmas was a special holiday as she brought out her Christmas collections. Jean also liked to travel and was a great shopper. She and Spud attended the Presbyterian Church.

Prior to her death, Jean lived near her son John and daughter-in-law Kirsten of San Diego. After John’s death, her daughter-in-law Kirsten cared for Jean until she passed.

According to her wishes, Jean was cremated and her ashes placed with Spud’s in the Sullivan I.O.O.F. Columbarium during a private service.
