James McDonald Smith

James “Donnie” Smith, 76, of Bourbon, MO, passed away Monday, October 9, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.

Donnie, as he was known by his family and friends, was born on September 1, 1941 to the late James Walter and Lucinda Gertrude (Jones) Smith in St. Louis, MO. He had an extensive work history that includes: Green Thumb Nursery, Jansen IGA, Bruns Vault Company, Mount Hope Cemetery and being a custodian for Sullivan schools. Donnie was united in marriage to Fontella Ruth Haack on June 7, 1961 in Waterloo, IL. Of this union came their four children; James, Scott, Katrina and Lucinda. Donnie was a family man who loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with all his heart. He was also a very outgoing person who never met a stranger and enjoyed many lifelong friendships. He took great pride in his immaculate lawn at his home and enjoyed coon hunting and fishing in his free time. Donnie will be missed by his family and closest friends.

Donnie is survived by his wife, Fontella R. (Haack) Smith of Bourbon; three children, James V. Smith of High Ridge; Scott Smith and wife Dawn of Cedar Hill; Lucinda A. Leach and husband Terry of St. Clair; nine grandchildren, Jacob Smith and wife Audra of Creve Coeur; Jeremiah Smith of High Ridge; Christopher Saettele and wife Tonia of Fenton; Rachel Harris and husband Donny of St. Louis; Cassandra Smith and fiancé Chris of Affton; Felicia Bowers and husband A.J. of Sullivan; Brooke Saettele and Stephen of Chicago, IL; Hayden Leach of Sullivan; and Steven Leach of St. Clair; six great-grandchildren, Mason Seattele, Lane Bowers, Robert Seattele, Danica Bowers, Brody Steinfeld, Camden Seattele; brothers, Benny Lee Smith and wife Bonita of Dittmer; John Perry Smith and wife Judy of House Springs; Aunt, Barbara May of Fenton; in-laws, Charles Pashia of Fenton; Shirley Smith of Bourbon; Paul Haack and wife Sue of St. Louis; Roberta Pollard of Dittmer; Kathleen Birlew and Dave of Fenton; Christine Barr and husband Clint of Kansas City, MO; two special nephews, Jason and Mark Smith of Bourbon; other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and many friends.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his daughter, Katrina L. Seattele; his parents, James and Lucinda (Jones) Smith; and five siblings, Darlene Pashia; Tex Smith; Beverly O’Neill; Brenda Sansoucie; and Randy Smith.

Memorials to the charity of your choice are appreciated.

It was Donnie’s wish to be cremated and his ashes will be privately interred at Mt. Hope Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.

All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan and Bourbon, MO.
