James E. Stack, age 80, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Life Care Center of Sullivan.

James Earl, known as Jim, was born on September 11, 1937 in Gerald, MO to James Cleveland and Lillian Kathleen (Blankenship) Stack. He attended country grade school near Indian Creek and graduated from Sullivan High School, Class of 1953. He attended St. Louis University for a short time before serving his country in the United States Marine Corp from 1957 to 1960. He completed a Bachelor’s Degree later in life while balancing his roles as husband, dad and provider. Jim was united in marriage to Mary Sue Delashmett on March 31, 1962 and together they raised their three sons, Jeff, Steve and Eric in Sullivan. Jim was employed by Meramec Mining Company/ Pea Ridge Mines and moved to the corporate offices where he retired as Vice President of Human Resources for Doe Run. He retired in 1998 after 34 years of service. Jim and Mary Sue retired to the Lake of the Ozarks, returning to Sullivan in 2014. Jim was very active in his church, Grace United Methodist, where he helped lead the youth group, Bible study and various committees. He was also involved in several activities with his sons, including Boy Scouts Cub Master and coaching little league baseball. Jim was an avid sports fan and he loved to watch his sons, grandchildren, nieces and nephews play their favorite sports wherever they were competing. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing, hunting and playing cards.  

Jim is survived by his wife, Mary Sue (Delashmett) Stack of Sullivan; three sons, Jeff Stack of Memphis, TN and wife Donna of  Charleston, MO, Steve Stack and wife Lisa of St. Louis, MO and Eric Stack and wife Lisa of Warrenton, MO; nine grandchildren, Brittany Stack of Johnson City, TN, Samantha Stack of Memphis, TN, Delaney Stack of Charleston, MO, Andrew, Lindsay and Jack Meyer of St. Louis, MO, Chad Cain of Warrenton, MO, Lute Cain and wife Liz of Washington, MO and Hobie Brown of Sullivan; one great-grandchild, Gunnar Cain of Washington, MO;  two brothers, Paul Stack and wife Pam of Sullivan, Doyle Stack and wife Mary Beth of Stanton, MO; two sisters, Gerry Brooks and husband Sam of Hillsboro, MO and Jerine Farrell of Sullivan; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lillian (Blankenship) Stack; and one brother, Bill Stack. 

A Memorial service was conducted 12 p.m., Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Grace United Methodist Church in Sullivan, with Rev. Bart Hildreth and Pastor Donna Schofield-Dolle as the officiants. Full military honors were performed following the service.

Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m., Friday, August 3, 2018 and from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Grace United Methodist Church in Sullivan.

Memorials to the Backpack Program at Grace United Methodist Church are appreciated. 

All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home of Sullivan and Bourbon, MO.
