Ida May Brown

Ida M. Brown, 88, of Sullivan, MO, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Missouri Baptist Hospital Sullivan.

Ida May was born on June 3, 1929 to the late Peter A. and Martha H. (
Roff) Pontious in St. Louis, MO. Ida was christened in infancy at the Zion Methodist Church in St. Louis, MO, where she was a member until she married and moved to Sullivan. She grew up and graduated from Hadley Technical School in 1946. Ida met her future husband, Curtiss Brown, on June 7, 1947 at the Champion City Dance and they got engaged on February 4, 1949. On March 11, 1949, they were united in marriage in Union, MO. Of this union, came their three children: Cynthia, Jeffrey and Carl Lee (who passed away in infancy). Ida rededicated her life to Christ on January 15, 1984 and was baptized by Reverend Mullen. Later, she transferred her membership to Missionary Baptist Church in Spring Bluff, where she made her home. After she moved into Sullivan, she started attending church at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Cuba, MO, and was confirmed April 7, 2012.

Ida worked in the surgery and delivery room at the Sullivan Hospital for six years when it first opened. She then worked at Midwest Footwear for 17-1/2 years. She retired and continued to work part-time at the Spring Bluff school for 20 years. Ida will be missed deeply by her family and friends.

Ida is survived by one son, Jeffrey Brown and wife, Terry, of Sullivan, MO; one daughter, Cindy Vierra and husband, Emanuel, of Sullivan, MO; five grandchildren, Rick Ivie and wife, Micki, of Sullivan, MO; Tina Ivie and friend Jason of Sullivan, MO; Jarrett Brown and wife, Diana, of St. Louis, MO; Jenica Bartolotta and husband, Beau, of Sullivan, MO; Joseph Brown and Coleman Smock of Boulder, CO; three great-grandchildren, Amanda Ivie, Ryan Ivie and Emily Lowe; one brother, Eugene Pontious and wife, Dorothy, of Pacific, MO; one special niece, Patty Pontious of St. Louis, MO; sister-in-law, Frances Brown of Sullivan, MO; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Ida was preceded in death by her husband, Curtiss Brown; one son, Carl Lee; her parents, Peter A. and Martha H. (Roff) Pontious; five brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m., on Friday, July 21, 2017 at Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO.

Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m., on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO.

Memorials to Evergreen Cemetery in Leslie, MO or Holy Cross Catholic Church in Cuba, MO are appreciated.

All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, MO.
