Herman A. Hoerath, Jr., age 81, of Bourbon, MO, left this world to be with our Lord on Tuesday, June 5, 2018.

Herman was born on July 15, 1936 to the late Herman Sr. and Elsie Hoerath. He grew up and became a Carpenter by trade and worked many years for Associated Crafts & Custom Printing. Herman also served in the National Guard for 9-years and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Post 3781 in Sullivan. After he retired, there was no sitting around for Herman. His need to stay busy lead him to working several more years at Onondaga State Park and the Bourbon Community Center.

In his spare time, Herman loved hunting, fishing, gardening and going to yard sales. He also had a love for collecting guns and finding arrowheads. A friend of his, who was Indian, taught him how to make arrowheads and Herman was invited to the Bourbon Middle School to share what he had learned. He also enjoyed spending time at the sale barn, visiting with his buddies and drinking coffee. It didn’t matter where or when you would see Herman, he would always greet you with a big smile and a “what do you know?” He was loved by many and will be sorely missed.

Herman is survived by his wife of seven years, Janie Hoerath; Janie’s four children, Lawrence Charanza of Cuba, MO, Roy Smith of Bourbon, MO, Megan Smith of St. Clair, MO and Michelle Smith of Lebanon, MO; 3 daughters that he helped raise for many years, Grace Holland of Lebanon, MO, Stacie Garcia and husband Joe of Angleton, TX and Tracie Ware of Bourbon, MO; 2 sisters, Mary Ruth Simpson of Bourbon, MO and Carol Ann Gray of Lebanon, ID; 26 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Along with his parents, Herman was greeted in Heaven by his daughter, Elsie Hoerath, his brother, James (Moe) Hoerath; sister-in-law, Frannie Hoerath; and his wife of 22 years, Ruth Ann Hoerath.

Funeral services were conducted 1 p.m., Friday, June 8, 2018 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, with Pastor John Roach officiating. Interment followed in Bourbon Cemetery.

Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, at the Eaton Funeral Home.
