Gail R. Short, 83, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at Care Center at Center Grove in Edwardsville, IL.

Gail Rae was born in St. Louis, MO, on October 24, 1936, to Jennings “Jake” and Frieda (Dollar) Keeney. She started her school days in St. Louis, later moving to Bourbon, where she attended and graduated from Bourbon High School, class of 1953. Gail was united in marriage to Charles Walter Short on March 16, 1957, and they were blessed with two children, David and Deana. Gail and Charlie made their homes in Indiana and Missouri while raising their family. After her children got older, Gail was employed in the clerical field. After retirement, they made their final home in Sullivan. They were able to share many beautiful years together before Charlie’s passing in 2012.

Gail enjoyed being involved in church activities at Temple Baptist and New Testament Baptist Church. She served as a Sunday school teacher, and played the piano. Gail also loved caring for her family and taking family vacations.

Gail is survived by her daughter, Deana Schultz and husband, Scott, of Bethalto, IL; daughter-in-law, Tonja Wicker and husband, Jerry, of DePere, WI; four grandchildren: Brendan Wicker of Madison, WI, Jenna Wicker of DePere, WI, Jake and Nathan Schultz, both of Bethalto, IL; sister-in-law, Katherine Zoellner of Maryland Heights, MO; one niece, Beverly McIntyre of Maryland Heights, MO; and other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Short; her son, David Short; and her parents, Jake and Frieda Keeney.

Visitation was held from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Friday, May 29, 2020 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan. Funeral service began at 1 p.m., with Pastor Josh Wright officiating. Interment followed in Hill Cemetery, Bourbon, MO.

Memorial contributions in Gail’s memory may be made to New Testament Baptist Church Missions Fund.
