Ethel J. Miller, 79, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Christmas morning, Friday, December 25, 2020 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan.

Ethel Jane Myers was born in Sullivan, MO, May 28, 1941, to Jess and Leola (Juergens) Myers. She grew up and attended school in Sullivan, graduating with the class of 1959 from Sullivan High School. Upon graduation, she went to work for Fidelity Communications. On November 12, 1960, Ethel was united in marriage to James Miller in Sullivan. To this union two children were born, Carolyn and James Allen. Their infant son, James Allen, passed shortly after birth. Jim and Ethel spent the early part of their marriage in Cherry Pointe, NC, where Jim served in the US Marines. They moved back to Sullivan in 1964 to settle down and raise their family. Jim was employed with Ramsey Corp. and Ethel began to drive a school bus in the mid-1970s. She continued driving the bus for nearly 35 years, retiring in 2011.

Ethel was a devoted grandmother and loved spending time with her grandchildren. In her later years, she and Jim enjoyed eating out and then going for walks around the Sullivan City Lake. Ethel was also a passionate viewer of the “Blue Bloods” television show, as well as old western shows and movies. She truly enjoyed monthly lunches with her friends and the senior lunches held at New Testament Baptist Church.

Ethel is survived by her husband, James Miller; her daughter, Carolyn Mercer (and her husband, Ron) of Sullivan; three grandchildren:  Derek Mercer of Rolla, MO, Cameron Mercer of Maplewood, MO, and Taelor Mercer of Sullivan; a sister-in-law, Frances Taylor; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, James Allen Miller; a grandson, Travis Mercer; her parents, Jess and Leola Myers; a brother, Lowell Myers; parents-in-law, Penny and Helen Miller; brothers-in-law, Walter Miller, Charles Miller, and Bennie Woods; and sisters-in-law, Virginia Woods, Marie Collins, and Golder Miller.

Funeral services were 12 p.m., Thursday, December 31, 2020 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, with Pastors Dave and Josh Wright officiating. Burial will be at Buffalo Cemetery – Sullivan.  

Visitation was 10 a.m. to 12 Noon, Thursday, prior to the funeral service at Eaton Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions in Ethel’s memory may be given to New Testament Baptist Church of Sullivan, MO.
