Erich A. Jank

Erich A. Jank, age 97 of Sullivan, MO, passed away Monday, May 11, 2020 at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James. 

Erich Arthur was born May 30, 1922 in Trivandrum, Travancore, S. India, the son of Robert M. and Cora B. (Bombal) Jank. Erich grew up in India, where his Dad was a minister of the Gospel. The Jank family were Native Missourians, and when Erich was 14 years old, they relocated to Vandalia, MO. Erich honorably served his country in the United States Air Corps from 1943-1946 during World War II. He was in the Signal Corps in China, Burma and India. Erich graduated from Blackburn College in Illinois, with degrees in Teaching and Agriculture. This is also where he met the love of his life, Marjorie Kamps, to whom he was married to on May 16, 1947 in Chicago, IL. 

Erich was employed at the Union Middle School, where he taught 5th grade for over 20 years. Through the G.I. Bill, he was then able to teach Veterans here in Sullivan. Erich also liked to barter and trade. He raised mules and border collies. He even had a favorite mule named Snowball. Erich was very fond of his gray African parrot named Rudy. Erich served on the Crawford Electric Board and was a devoted member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Bourbon. 

Erich is survived by his long-time devoted friend, Tina Mae Weber of Sullivan, MO; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Jank; his parents, Robert and Cora Jank; one brother, Carl Jank; and two sisters, Cordula Lange and Walda Schafer. 

Graveside services, with full Military Honors, were held at 2 p.m., Monday, May 18, 2020 at Jank Cemetery in Bourbon with Pastor Zirpel officiating.  

All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, MO.
