Elsie Alene Vawter
Elsie “Alene” Vawter nee Goodman of Sullivan, MO was born on Friday, July 4, 1924 in Kings Mill, AR to James David Goodman and Ona Rena Jones Goodman. She passed away on Monday, June 29, 2020 in St. Louis, MO at the age of 95 years, 11 months and 25 days.
Alene married William Oliver Vawter on September 19, 1942 in Hardy, AR and to this union 7 children were born. Alene and Bill leased the Motorport Restaurant and Gas station for many years in Hardy, AR. Alene worked in many different factories in her adult life. She was a very kind and sweet lady and a dedicated, committed worker. She was a faithful Christian and a member of the Lasting Hope Assembly of God Church in Bourbon, MO where she taught Sunday School. She also, loved cooking and helping at the church dinners. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and especially making pies. Alene will be missed by her family and friends who loved her greatly.
She was preceded in death by her parents James and Ona Goodman; husband William Oliver Vawter; sons Harold Vawter and Mark Vawter; sisters Willene Kary, Ola Snow and Maxine Helms; and brother Donald Goodman,
She is survived by her children Lindell (Bonnie) Vawter of Leslie, MO, Michael (Judy) Vawter of Taft, TN, Keith (Terri) Vawter of Mansfield, MO, Debbie (Jimmie) Anderson of Stanton, MO and Kenny (Joanne) Vawter of Houston, MO; daughter-in-law Julie (Gary) Goss of St. Clair, MO; brother Stanley (Kay) Goodman of Cedar Hill, MO, sister Sharon Goodman of St. Charles, MO; brother-in-law Chuck Kary of Winchester, TN; 13 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation was from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2020 at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, MO. Funeral Service was at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, MO with Pastor James Austin officiating. Burial at Liberty Hill Cemetery at 3 p.m. at Hardy, AR. Memorials were suggested to Missouri Baptist Children's Home, 11300 St. Charles Rock Rd., Bridgeton, MO 63044.
