Ellis L. ‘Butch’ Ferguson

Ellis “Butch” Ferguson, 74, of Sullivan, MO, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at his home due to natural causes.

Ellis LaVerne was born on July 14, 1943 to the late Guy and Ethel (Holland) Ferguson in Peoria, IL. He grew up and attended school in Peoria before enlisting in the US Navy in 1961. Butch served his country for six years, serving in both the Navy and Army. He was honorably discharged in 1967.

Butch attended a year of college at East Central College and spent most of his life working as a mechanic and eventually a printer with the Betz Brothers Printing business in Sullivan. Most will remember him as one who lived life to the fullest. Though he was married several times, he was blessed with his four children: Kris, Rodney, Rita and Marty. Butch lived for adventure and always anticipated what was around the next corner. He didn’t let setbacks slow him down. Butch loved hunting, fishing, driving cars, traveling, and even playing music. He touched many lives around him and he will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

Butch is survived by his four children: Kris Jensen (and her husband, Steve) of Winnsboro, TX, Rodney Ferguson of Los Angeles, CA, Rita Radford (and her husband, Phillip) of Steeleville, MO, and Marty Hinson of Sullivan, MO; a sister, Sue Mettler (and her husband, Ken) of Center, ND; a brother, Forrest Coffey of Peoria, IL; four grandchildren: Joshua Coachman-Jensen (and spouse, Will) of Seattle, WA, Cody Jensen (and his wife, Angela) of Lavon, TX, Shane Bunton (and his wife, April) of Steeleville, and Justin Bunton of Cuba, MO; two great-grandchildren, James and Hailie Bunton; and numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Darren; two sisters, Nancy Troop and Bonnie Sullivan; and a brother, Jerry Coffey.

A Celebration of Life Gathering was from 6-8 p.m., Monday, August 21, 2017 at the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, MO.
