Edgar “Ed” Schreit, Jr., age 77, of Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Washington.

Edgar Lee was born on June 21, 1941 in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Edgar L. Schreit, Sr. and Marie A. (Westhoff) Schreit. He grew up attended school in the Cleveland District. He graduated High School in 1960. In 1961, Ed enlisted in the US Army and honorably served his country until his honorable discharge in 1969. Ed married Betty Aden on January 25, 1964 in St. Louis. To their union, two children were born, Ed III and Kim. They moved to Sullivan in 1976 to raise their family. Upon moving to Sullivan, Ed spent time as a truck driver, before working in construction. Betty preceded Ed in death in 1994. He later married Shirley Beauchamp on August 12, 1995. In his later years, Ed worked at Wal-Mart, retiring in 2007. Ed served as the previous commander of the local American Legion and he was involved in placing flags around town. He also enjoyed fishing, traveling, loved the outdoors and gardening (especially raising his hot peppers). Ed was very patriotic, had an incredible sense of humor, enjoyed family gatherings and just being with his family, no matter how he was feeling.

Ed is survived by his wife, Shirley Schreit of Sullivan; four children, Kim Brand and husband, Jeff, of Sullivan, Ed Schreit III and wife, Tara, of Sullivan, Julie Robertson and husband, Mike, of Columbia, MO, and Andrew Beauchamp and special friend, Sandra of Springfield, MO; ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, numerous other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Schreit; his parents, Edgar L. Schreit, Sr. and Marie A. (Westhoff) Schreit; and one brother, Richard Schreit.

Funeral Services were conducted 1 p.m., Thursday, October 4, 2018 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, with Pastor Scott Perry as the officiant. Interment followed in I.O.O.F. Memorial Cemetery in Sullivan with full Military Honors.

Visitation was held from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Thursday, at the Eaton Funeral Home.

Memorial Contributions, in memory of Ed, may be given to the American Lung Association.
