Earney R. Bay

Earney R. Bay, age 62, of Sullivan, MO, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Earney was born on July 18, 1956 in Washington, MO, to James E. and Alice S. (Pewitt) Bay, Sr.  He grew up in a military family and attended school in various places, before graduating from Sullivan High School, Class of 1974.  He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1978. 

Earney met Clara Babb, fell in love and they were married on October 1, 1976.  They endured several moves throughout their lives, but eventually made their home in Sullivan. Earney was employed at M.F.A. Propane for several years.  He then gained employment at Peterson Oil Company as a Manager.  Earney was still working for Peterson Oil at the time of his passing. 

Earney enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, visiting with friends, and playing Santa Claus, which he was very gifted at. He liked sports, especially volleyball and softball. Earney was a very active member of Sullivan First Assembly of God where he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, choir and worship team member.  He was very loved by his church family and was known for his sound advice and big bear hugs. 

Earney is survived by his wife, Clara Bay of Sullivan; his mother and step-father,  Alice and Jim Rogers of Sullivan; one son, Robert Mott and wife, Laurie, of Deltona, FL; two grandchildren, Blake Mott and Kayla Mott; one sister, Barbara Tutterrow and husband, Richard, of Sullivan; step-sister, Pam Stricklin and husband, Kevin, of Sullivan; one brother, Jim Bay and wife, Sandy, of Eminence, MO; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Shannon Bay; his father, James Bay, Sr.; his brother, Rick Bay; parents in law, Herbert and Margaret Catlett; brothers-in-law, Dennis Babb and James Babb; grandparents, Allen and Alma Pewitt, and John and Lucy Bay. 

Visitation was held from 4- 7 p.m., Thursday, December 20, 2018 at First Assembly of God in Sullivan.

A memorial service was conducted 7 p.m., Thursday, December 20, 2018 at First Assembly of God in Sullivan, with Pastor Kyle Phillips as the officiant. Inurnment was held in Stanton Cemetery.

Memorials to the American Diabetes Association are appreciated. 

All arrangements were under the care of the Eaton Funeral Home of Sullivan & Bourbon, MO.
