Dorothy Gable

Dorothy Gable, 79, of Sullivan, passed away peacefully at her home early Sunday, August 27, 2017.

Dorothy was born March 26, 1938 in St. Louis to the late Rev. Floyd and Grace (Hutson) Bird. She grew up and attended school in St. Louis. After finishing school at a young age, she began helping her mother at home as well as taking on babysitting jobs. Dorothy was mother to three children: Alan, Damon, and Becky “Dee”. She embraced her role as a mother throughout her life as it revolved around her children and grandchildren. Dorothy was a loving and kind person who was strongly devout in her faith. Although she was a private person she was devoted to her family. Oftentimes, she would provide caregiving to them during their time of need. Dorothy loved listening to Gospel music, planting her flowers and working in her yard.

She lived her final days in her home with the care of her niece, Peggy Cusick and nephew, R. W. Crocker whom of which the family would like to extend tremendous gratitude and appreciation for taking special care of Dorothy in their time of need.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Alan Sharp (and his wife, Susan) of Sullivan, Damon Schildknecht (and his wife, Farrah) of Lexington, SC, and Becky Eaton (and her husband, Larry) of St. Peters, MO; eight grandchildren: Sarah Waddell (and her husband, Isaac) of Aurora, MO, Isaac and Nathan Sharp of Sullivan, William “Luke” Schildknecht of Little Rock, AR, and Brilee and Koen Schildknecht of Lexington, SC and Jeff Eaton (and his wife, Amy) of St. Charles, MO, Kelly Mesnier (and her husband, Joe) of St. Charles, MO; two great grandchildren, Charlee and Adeline Eaton of St. Charles; a sister-in-law, Marsha Bird of Sullivan; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and their husbands, Naomi (Russell) and Virginia (Bob); and two brothers, Norman and Floyd.

A Graveside service was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Louis.
