Daniel Gregory Lahmann, age 85, of Sullivan, MO, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2020 at Life Care Center of Sullivan.

Daniel, known to most as Danny, was born on July 26, 1934 in Sullivan, MO, the son of the late Chester and Dolly (Studdard) Lahmann. He was the first of six children born to his parents. Danny honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955 aboard the USS Pickaway (APA/LPA-222) and the USS Fort Marion (LSD-22). He was later employed by the former Meramec Mining Company until its closing in 1977. Danny attended Bailey Technical School for Automotive and Diesel Technology, graduating first in his class in 1979. Danny then went to work for Ryder Truck Rental as a diesel mechanic and remained there until his retirement in 1996.

Danny was blessed with three children, Debbie, Greg and Rick, from two previous marriages. He was united in marriage to Kit Guthrie on October 9, 1965 and one son, Brandon, was born to their union. Danny and Kit were married for 53 years before Kit preceded him in death in 2018.

He accepted Jesus as his Savior in 1980 and was baptized, becoming a member of New Testament Baptist Church, where he regularly attended and previously taught Sunday school. During his earlier years at New Testament, when he was able to, he enjoyed “soul winning” nights (visitation) and chaperoning on the church youth outings. He was very knowledgeable of the Bible and was a good source to go to with questions.

Danny was more famously known for his dry sense of humor and quick wit, which he maintained right up until his very last day. For the greatest part of his life he enjoyed history and historical sites, traveling and exploring, auctions, metal detecting, and mowing grass. He could fix anything. Loved dogs. Was iffy on cats – except one named Lilly. His little poodle, Hannah, was his favorite hound – taking her for rides on the four-wheeler, on the lawnmower while he mowed, and going for rides in the truck to see the cows down the road. He liked to watch the squirrels and birds fight for seed on the feeder outside of his kitchen window. Danny was always a good friend and neighbor – helping when you asked, but more often when you didn’t. And he loved spending time with family and friends, but especially enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren.

Danny always had a special respect and place in his heart for “old” people and our military. He served with the meals on wheels program and enjoyed visiting nursing homes and other shut-ins. He followed politics closely and would gladly engage in political conversation. Danny was never afraid to speak up about his support for God, our military or the sanctity of life.

Danny is survived by his children: Debbie Lahmann and companion, John Santanen of Summerville, IN, Greg Lahmann and wife, Mae of Sullivan, MO, Rick Lahmann and wife, Karla of Sullivan, MO, and Brandon Lahmann and wife, Melinda of Bourbon, MO; five grandchildren: Elleanor and Maddeline Lahmann, Jennifer Roam, Jessica Lahmann, and Patricia Kaiser and husband, Craig; eight great-grandchildren: Jace, Carley, Kierstin, Kristopher, Ryan, Ragen, Jordon and Sidney; one great-great-grandson, Jackson; two brothers, Chester Lahmann and wife, Bonnie of Sullivan, MO, and Donnie Lahmann and wife, Nancy of Berryville, AR; one sister, Margaret Wagner of Kansas City; two sisters-in-law, Wanda Lahmann and Rosemary Lahmann, both of Sullivan, MO; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kit Lahmann; his parents, Chester and Dolly Lahmann; one grandson, John Meade; and two brothers, David and Bill Lahmann.

Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m., Saturday, February 15, 2020 at New Testament Baptist Church in Sullivan. Interment followed in Evergreen Cemetery, Leslie, MO.

Visitation was held from 9:30-11 a.m., Saturday, at New Testament Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or AMVETS veteran organization in Danny’s name.
