Dale Schatz, age 84 of Kirksville, Missouri formerly of Sullivan, passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

Dale Clarence was born on August 8, 1934 to Andrew Michael “Cecil” and Vora Marie (Antisdel) Schatz in Sullivan, Missouri. He attended and graduated from Sullivan High School class of 1951. He honorably served his county in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1957. On August 30, 1958, Dale was united in marriage to Maxine S. Schebaum at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Sullivan where he was also baptized and confirmed. Dale and Maxine had celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Mr. Schatz attended college, earning a Master’s Degree in Education Administration. He taught history and sociology for five years and then moved to Jefferson City where he worked for the State Department for Higher Education for about 5 years. Next, Mr. Schatz served as the assistant to the President of Jefferson College in Hillsboro and in 1975 he became the Vice President of Truman University in Kirksville, Missouri. Mr. Schatz retired while serving at Truman.  He was a member of MRTA (Missouri Retired Teachers Association and Public School Personnel) and American Legion Post #1000 of Jefferson City.

Dale was a quiet person who enjoyed spending time at home with Maxine. As a young man he enjoyed playing baseball and trap shooting. As an adult he enjoyed watching the Cardinals.

Mr. Schatz is survived by his wife, Maxine (Schebaum) Schatz of Kirksville, MO; his daughter, Kathleen Fullerton and husband Todd of Liberty, MO; one grandchild, Chelsea Cain and husband Lucas of Charlotte, NC; two step grandchildren, Austin and Kyler Fullerton of Liberty, MO; one great-grandchild, Lucy Monroe; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Dale was preceded in death by two sons, Chad and Christopher Schatz; his parents, Cecil and Vora (Antisdel) Schatz; and three brothers, Derl, Don and Jerry Schatz.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, October 5, 2018 at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan with Fr. Paul Telken officiating. Interment followed at Dutch Hill Cemetery with full military honors.

Visitation was held 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, at the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan.
