Cranford Spindler

Cranford D. “Cran” Spindler, age 91, of Sullivan, MO passed away Monday, November 25, 2019 at CrabApple Village in St. Clair, MO. 

Cran was born on February 14, 1928 in Sullivan, MO, the son of Walter and Sarah (Reeves) Spindler. He honorably served his country in the United States Army at the end of World War II. Cran went to work at the former International Shoe Company where he met a young lady by the name of Norma Jean Pounds. They were married on June 11, 1949 in Union and two daughters, Diane and Debbie, were born to their union. Cran and Norma celebrated 67 years of marriage together before Norma passed away in 2017. Cran went to work for Ramsey Corporation as a young man and remained there until he retired in 1990. He served his community as a volunteer Fireman for over 50 years, and was known for his famous “fish frying” skills. He was also a dedicated member of New Testament Baptist Church, where he was delighted to provide ice cream to all of the children. Cran enjoyed woodworking, making washer boxes, collecting cans and walnuts throughout town. He also loved his truck and took excellent care of his vehicles. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandpa. 

Cranford is survived by his two daughters, Debbie Crosser and husband Curt of Punta Gorda, FL and Diane Volner and husband Don of Sullivan, MO; six grandchildren: Gretchen Morrison (Randy) of Wildwood, MO, Brandon Martin and wife Jen of Lee’s Summit, MO, Travis Martin and wife Tara of Columbia, MO, Tonya Converse  of Bourbon, MO, Jimmy Rohrer of Leasburg, MO and Melanie Hardy and husband Mark of Sullivan, MO; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Merle Spindler of Sullivan, MO and Gary Spindler (Mari) of Stanton, MO; one sister, Imogene Busch of Sullivan, MO; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean (Pounds) Spindler; his parents, Walter and Sarah (Reeves) Spindler; two brothers, Alfred and Elmer Spindler; and two sisters, Lois Renick and Barbara Sue Spindler.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 30, 2019 at New Testament Baptist Church in Sullivan, officiated by Pastor David Wright. Interment followed in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Sullivan.

Visitation was held from 9-11 a.m., Saturday, at New Testament Baptist Church.
