Arnold Clifford Flowers

Arnold Clifford Flowers of Bourbon, MO, was born to the union of Harley C. and Margaret E. (Copeland) Flowers on Monday, October 23, 1933 in Redford, MO. He left from this life, surrounded by his family, at his home on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at the age of 83 years.

Arnold was united in marriage to Hilda Ferling on February 14, 1953 and to this union six children were born Ronnie, James, Barbara, Dennis, Brenda and Irene. Hilda passed away suddenly, on December 22, 1979. On May 2, 1981 Arnold was united in marriage to Karen K. Hopwood and to this union one son Sean was born.

He honorably served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War, from August 10, 1954 until July 27, 1956. He earned the Good Conduct Medal.

Arnold was a member of Meramec Valley Baptist Church He enjoyed fishing, spoiling his dog JoJo, playing Blue Grass, Classic Country and Gospel music on his guitar, mandolin and banjo. But what he loved most in life was spending time with his family and friends.

Arnold was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, uncle, great-uncle, son-in-law, brother-in-law, and friend of many. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Arnold is preceded in death by his parents Harley C. and Margaret E. (Copeland) Flowers; first wife Hilda (Ferling) Flowers; one son James Flowers; two grandchildren Dana and James Brendel; one great-grandson Zachary Carter; three sisters Janice Wilmham, Wanda Flowers and Lois Chitwood; one brother Carl “Bud” Flowers; two brothers-in-law Jack Massey and Bill Chitwood and other family and friends.

Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his loving wife Karen K. (Hopwood) Flowers of the home; six children Ronnie and wife Mary Flowers of Winston Salem, NC, Barbara and husband James Brendel of Leslie, MO, Dennis Flowers of Springfield, MO, Brenda Mueller of Tazewell, TN, Irene and husband Marty Hayes of Alabaster, AL, Sean Flowers and fiancé Melissa of Bourbon, MO; brothers and sisters Leroy and wife Wanda Flowers of Millstadt, IL, Jim and wife Alberta Flowers of Ellington, MO, Mavis Massey of Millstadt, IL, Willie Kirschemann of Florissant, MO, Betty and husband Jerry LeSure of Columbia, MO; mother-in-law Dorothy Hopwood of Bourbon, MO; sister-in-law Betty Flowers of Ellington, MO; twenty-two grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation was held on Friday, June 23, 2017 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Mizell Funeral Home 904 W. Washington St. Cuba, MO.

Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2017 at the Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba with Pastor Richard Williams, officiating.

Interment, prayers and full military honors will follow at Hodge-Enloe Cemetery, rural Bourbon.

If desired, memorials would be appreciated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in Arnold’s memory.

The Mizell Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Flowers family.
