Alice Minnie Black, 80 of Higginsville, MO, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2019, at Riverbend Heights Health & Rehabilitation in Lexington, MO.

Born Saturday, January 14, 1939 in Bourbon, MO, she was the daughter of the late Anthony Rhodus and the late Edith Ahrens Rhodus. She was the wife of the late Edward Black, preceding her in death August 27, 1986. Alice graduated from High School in Bourbon and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics at the University of Missouri. Alice married Edward Black in 1967 and moved to Higginsville in 1968. She taught at the Mayview Middle school until it's closing. Alice then worked as a substitute teacher for surrounding school districts and at the Higginsville Garment Factory until her retirement. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and part of many church groups, including local quilting clubs. Alice was a Cub Scout den leader and a Boy Scout Troop leader for many years, helping both of her sons achieve the highest rank of Eagle Scout.  Alice was a travel league bowler in Higginsville, Concordia, and Warrensburg. Bowling was a huge part of Alice's life, earning herself the National 600 Club Award and a spot in the Missouri State Bowling Association Hall of Fame. Those are just two of the countless awards she collected over the years while bowling.

Surviving are two sons, Sean McConnell of Higginsville, Travis (Amy) Black of Frankfort, KY; three step daughters, Teresa (Dennis) Mullins of Sweet Springs, MO, Karen (Gary) Souder of Higginsville, Tammy (NJ) Stuckey of Grain Valley, MO; one sister, Marie Ann Collette of Oregon; and twelve grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward Black; and one daughter-in-law,  Pauletta McConnell.

A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Kurt Brandon officiating. Private Interment will be in the Hill Cemetery in Bourbon, MO where she'll be laid to rest next to her parents.

The family received friends from 10-11 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2019, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions may be sent to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Preferred Hospice of Lexington.
