Union Woman Seriously Injured In Cliff Fall Sunday

A Union woman, believed to be in her fifties, was flown to Mercy Medical Center, Creve Coeur, Sunday after reportedly falling from a cliff inside Meramec State Park at 3:50 p.m.

According to Sullivan Fire Protection District, firefighters were called for a victim of a fall from a cliff near Fisher Cave with a possible broken wrist; however, when emergency service personnel arrived from Sullivan Fire and Missouri Baptist Ambulance, the victim’s injuries appeared to be more significant.

According to preliminary information gathered for authorities, the victim was walking along a trail near Fisher Cave with a male adult and child when something went “horribly wrong," causing the victim to fall from a cliff some 25 to 30 feet down, landing on the rock below.

The woman received multiple internal injuries and was flown by ARCH Air for treatment of serious injuries.

Firefighters reported on Monday that they have responded to several incidents in this area of Meramec State Park over the last five years from falls in which visitors have walked the trail, which goes up to a bluff viewing point.

The name of the victim and further details regarding the incident were unavailable at press time.
