Two Injured Saturday Morning, Driver Charged With DWI

Two Sullivan residents were injured following a single vehicle accident Saturday morning, August 1, at 9:28 a.m.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred on the South Service Road near the 228-mile marker of Interstate 44. 

Marthana Bhavinkumar, 30, Sullivan, operating an eastbound 2009 Chevrolet Malibu, traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Bhavinkumar received serious injuries and a passenger, Alma D. Arvizu, 33, Sullivan, received moderate injuries. 

Both were transported by Missouri Baptist Ambulance to Missouri Baptist Hospital, Sullivan, for treatment.

Bhavinkumar was arrested and released by the highway patrol on the charge of driving while intoxicated and assault in the second degree.

The vehicle was a total loss.
