Two Homes Destroyed By Fire, Eagles Hall Spared Over The Weekend

 

Two homes were a total loss and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Hall, 1000 Acid Mine Road, sustained minimal damage following weekend fires fought by the Sullivan Fire Protection District.

According to Sullivan Fire Chief Eric Lewis, the first structure fire came in at 6:56 a.m. Saturday, March 7, at 7167 Jakes Prairie Road for an alarm of a brick house on fire with flames showing.

Sullivan Fire Captain Ray Enloe, in his report stated, “while in route, we were notified by dispatch that the building was fully involved, with flames through the roof. We arrived on the scene to find that only the brick walls were left standing, and the building was a total loss.”

Sullivan Fire was assisted on the call with a tanker from Beaufort-Leslie Fire District along with Crawford Electric, which disconnected electric to the home and Missouri Baptist Ambulance.

Chief Lewis reported that the home was vacant at the time of the fire and renters had been removed from the home in January. The cause of the fire has been ruled undetermined due to the extensive damage to the property.

Firefighters used some 20,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire.

The second structure alarm fire was reported on Saturday at 12:34 p.m. when firefighters were called to the Fraternal Order of Eagles Hall for a structure fire with fire in the wall of the organizations small banquet facility.

Firefighters arrived and quickly removed tin and wood from the wall and extinguished the fire without any significant damage to the facility.

The club was reopened and in operations within hours of the fire with crews from Puro-Clean, Sullivan, cleaning up the damages.

The third structure fire alarm was reported at 8:24 a.m. coming in initially as a brush fire but secondly as a structure fire when a mobile home was on fire at 10201 Ervins Place, in Washington County, off Highway 185 South.

Firefighters arrived to find a mobile home fully destroyed by fire with no one home at the time of the fire.

Sullivan Fire Chief Lewis reported that the cause to this fire was also undetermined and the property a total loss.

The names of the home owners on Jakes Prairie and Ervins Place were not available at press time.
