Three New Hires And Three Bids Approved Tuesday Night By Council

The Sullivan City Council held their first meeting of July, Tuesday night, July 7. 

They approved three bid items, hired three new members of the Sullivan Police Department and discussed an upcoming meeting from Planning and Zoning.

Sullivan City Administrator J.T. Hardy reported that the Planning and Zoning Commission would be holding a public hearing on July 14, at 6 p.m. for a conditional use permit from Pat Alexander, Village on the Greens Apartments. Alexander is looking to expand the complex by 36 units. The property is located at 104 Mulligan Drive and in an R-2 zoned district. 

Hardy reported that the Board of Adjustment met July 6, and approved a 17-foot setback for the property versus the 25-foot setback required in R-2 zoning.

Hardy continued with the three bid matter before the council and received approval from the council to purchase: 

39 wooden poles for the Electric Department from Baldwin Pole, Wiggins, Miss., for $12,558 due to the seven-day delivery crucial need; 

A new auditor will be reviewing the city books for the next three years as the council approved the bid from Fick, Eggemeyer & Williamson CPAs for $12,000 the first year, $12,300 the second year and $12,500 for the final year; and,

The council approved the last bid for Nova Chip/Ultrathin bonded resurfacing for $202,372.20 from N.B. West, Sullivan to resurface: 

North Olive to Blair; 

Blair to Jackson, Dill St., North Park, Ramsey, Fisher from Elmont to Ramsey, Second St., Hilda Crow, Fourth St., Walnut, McMurphy, North Olive from Euclid to Elm and North Mansion from Euclid to Springfield Avenue.

The council went into closed session to discuss three matters of personnel and one case of real estate. There was no action taken on the real estate; however, three new members were approved for the Sullivan Police Department.

The council approved the hiring of patrolman Benjamin Tinsley, St. James, at a pay grade of $18.87 per hour; patrolman Emily Post, Maryville, at a pay grade of $18.87 an hour and Mary Pigg, police dispatcher, pay grade $16.66 an hour.

The next council meeting will be held Tuesday, July 21, at 7 p.m. at Sullivan City Hall.
