Three Injured Near Stanton Saturday Morning

Three Sugar Grove, Ill., residents received injuries, including one serious, Saturday December 21, at 9:05 a.m. on westbound I-44 at the 230 mile marker.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred when a westbound 2018 Freightliner, operated in lane two by Humberto Rosales, 54, El Paso, Texas, made an improper lane change.

The improper lane change caused a westbound 2014 Nissan Sentra, operated by Celia R. Konen, 20, to steer her vehicle to the left, causing it to travel off the roadway where it struck a guardrail. The rear of the Konen vehicle was then struck by the rear of the semi trailer.

Konen, wearing a seatbelt received moderate injuries, while passengers Leroy M. Konen, 65, received serious injuries and Teresa K. Konen, 63, received moderate injuries. All three were transported to Missouri Baptist Hospital, Sullivan, for treatment by Missouri Baptist Ambulances.

The Konen vehicle was a total loss while the Rosales semi and trailer sustained minor damages.
