Sullivan School District's Update Regarding COVID-19

March 12, 2020

Dear Sullivan School District Families:

We wanted to provide you with information related to how we are working to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff and keeping on top of the latest developments with novel  COVID-19 (coronavirus). There is one confirmed case of COVID-19 (coronavirus) in Missouri in St. Louis County. Officials say the risk to the general public in our State is currently low. Please keep in mind this is a rapidly evolving situation.

The Sullivan School District does not currently have any confirmed cases of the coronavirus.  We would be notified of any such confirmations by the Department of Health. We are following the CDC (Center for Disease Control) recommendations and will continue to follow our health, sanitation and safety protocols.

In the meantime, we urge all families to continue to maintain healthy habits as we do during any cold and flu season.

Steps you can take to prevent the spread of flu and the common cold will also help prevent coronavirus:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water. If not available, use hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home while you are sick. Please call the office to report absences.
  • Cover your mouth/nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services has developed a helpful fact sheet.  Click here to access it. The MO DHSS opened a statewide public hotline for citizens needing guidance regarding COVID-19.  The phone number is 877-435-8411. You can also find additional information on our website or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website.

Please be assured that our staff will continue to monitor illness and absences in our schools and continue our frequent cleaning procedures to maintain a healthy learning and work environment. We will continue to work with the Franklin County Health Department as they monitor and manage the current situation.  If we receive any word of a case in our area or our schools, or if we receive any guidance from the county, state or federal health professionals, we will certainly share that with our staff, students, and parents.

Thank you,

Dr. Jana Thornsberry, Superintendent
