Sullivan Police Ready For Halloween With Increased Patrols
Sullivan Police will once again be stepping up patrols for the safety of the public and protection of property on Thursday, Oct. 31, as trick-or-treaters, ghosts and goblins hit the local streets seeking treats.
Sullivan Police Lieutenant Patrick Johnson reported that last year and in years past the city has had very few problems with vandalism on Halloween night, but officers will be out in force in zones watching for any incidents.
"We have been very fortunate in years past that we have had no problems on Halloween," said Johnson. "We praise our young people and their parents for this successful past and hope to see it continue this year."
Every officer on the department will be out on patrol Halloween night in all areas to aid in safety of young children and to protect property from vandals.
This year, Sullivan Police will be assisting Franklin County in monitoring registered sex offenders' residence to make sure they are complying with the law inside the city limits as in years past.
Helping with containing many young children in the area will be the Chamber of Commerce Spooktacular held Thursday, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. with more than 100 participating businesses handing out treats to young trick-or-treaters. Important to this even in 2019 in the closure of many streets in the downtown areas so that children can visit businesses without the hazards of traffic.
Sullivan Police remind residents that if they observe any suspicious activity Halloween night to contact the department at 573-468-8001.
