Sullivan Police Close I-44 For Suicide Attempt

A 29-year-old Owensville man threatening to leap off the Interstate 44 west overpass early Tuesday morning, Aug. 1, caused Sullivan Police to request the interstate be closed in both directions as they attempted to prevent the man from leaping to his death or serious injury.

According to Sullivan Police, the incident began to unfold around 3:43 a.m. when a motorist traveling along the west overpass had the male suspect leap into his vehicle's path. The driver reported that he was able to avoid striking the man and rolled his window down at which time the subject demanded cigarettes and a lighter. The motorist then notified law enforcement.
