Street Closures, Bids, Monthly Bills Before Council

The Sullivan City Council was scheduled to meet on Tuesday, October 15, with one matter before them for requests and petitions regarding a street closure, three bid items and payment of the monthly bills totaling $1,260,263.64.

Under requests and petitions, the Sullivan Chamber of Commerce is asking that the city close a number of streets during the Halloween Spooktacular event from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Thursday, October 31.

In a letter to the council, the chamber reports that due to the 1,000-plus people who participate in the trick or treat event the community feels that it is in the best interest to close vehicle traffic on Main and Clark Streets during the time frame of the event.

The proposed street closures include: Hughes Ford and West Main, Taylor and West Main, South Clark and West Main, South Church and West Main, North Clark and West Main, North Clark and West Euclid (both sides), North Clark and Maple (Both sides), North Clark and Elm St. (both sides), and North Clark and Springfield Rd.

This is the first time the chamber has requested this type of closure for the event.

City Administrator J.T. Hardy was scheduled to present three bids matters before the council Tuesday night with two for the Sullivan Water and Sewer Department and one for Sullivan Police Department. The items, due to city code, will not have to be bid locally as they fall into a special state bidding program.

Hardy is looking for council approval to purchase an Ammonia Tester Each DR6000 for $8,175.17, from Each, Loveland, Colorado; a John Deere 50G Compact Exacavtor for $49,125 from John Deere and 18 Motorola APX 1000 Portable Radio’s and accessories from Motorola Solutions in the amount of $23,974.20.

The payment of the monthly bills totaling $1,260,263.64 was expected to be approved for payment and included: $46,835.70 for UMB Bank payment 139 on wastewater treatment plant, $477,635.05 to MPUA for power used during September 2019, and $18,803.82 to Oak Grove Village for their share of Was-Mart Sales Tax revenue.

The council had no ordinances proposed for their consideration Tuesday night but did have closed session posted for real estate, litigation and personnel.
