Stack Retires Following 36 Years With Sullivan Police/City of Sullivan

On Friday, September 14, Sullivan Police Administrative Assistant Mary Beth Stack retired following 33 years with the Sullivan Police Department and three years with City of Sullivan billing department for a combined 26 years.

To put into perspective Stack worked for Sullivan Police Department for 396.87 months, 1,725.71 weeks, 12,080 days, 289,920 hours and 17,395,200 minutes during her career.

On Friday, members of the City of Sullivan City council and fellow officers joined Stack for a celebration at Police Headquarters honoring her years of dedicated service.

Stack began her career with the City of Sullivan in 1975 serving as a utility billing clerk until 1978 when she stepped away to raise her young children but returned in 1985 and served until Friday, September 14, 2018 as Police Administrative Assistant.

Serving five decades Stack felt that the one thing she was going to miss was her co-workers.

“”I’m going to miss working with everyone here the most, I’ve loved this job here,” said Stack. “Everyday has been something different, my kids have all grown up here at Sullivan Police Department, it’s just been a special time for me.”

Stack stated that through the years the job has changed a lot with technology going from hand written reports and keeping track of the early day records to the massive amount of computer generated reports and items needed to keep the department running in its day to day operations.

In speaking about her greatest achievements with the department Stack stated simply, “It was my job to make sure that everything flowed smoothly from compiling the data to keeping office supplies and needed paperwork and reports on file. I’ve enjoyed trying to help the department and our staff again run smoothly.”

Stack was asked if she ever thought when she took the position with the Police Department that she would make a career out of it?

“From the day I started here it felt like it was a perfect fit for me,” said Stack.

As for retirement Stack is looking to do some traveling and enjoy time with her family and working on the family farm with whatever the family needs her to do.

“I’m really going to miss this place,” said Stack Friday, trying to hold back tears of joy and sadness.
