Sheriff's Office Warns Of Scam
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is warning citizens of a scam that asks them to wire money as a penalty for not showing up for jury duty.
Franklin County Sheriff Steve Pelton said the scammer is identifying himself as a "sergeant" with the department and requesting monetary compensation for failing to appear for jury duty.
The caller requested the citizen to wire money into an account.
Pelton said the sheriff's office will never contact anyone to request money for bond.
"If you receive any calls of this nature, do not give anyone any money," Pelton warned.
