The Sullivan Independent News is saddened to report that a security guard fatally injured in St. Louis on Sunday was a military veteran from Sullivan.

The guard was working the MetroLink at Delmar.

Reports have been coming into Sullivan Independent News for several hours. We have held off providing information until sources could confirm the incident.

According to St. Louis Police, a shooting occurred around 10 a.m. when a security guard approached a suspect regarding a disturbance. At that time, the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the guard multiple times.

The guard did not work for St. Louis MetroLink directly but did work for a private security firm hired to help patrol.

A $25,000 reward has been offered to help bring the suspect into custody. The suspect is described as a black male, 40-years-old or older, graying beard and mustache, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with orange lettering representing a football team. He also reportedly was wearing a blue type gator mask and black coat.

Anyone with information is asked to contact CrimeStoppers at 866-371-8477 with any information on the shooting or homicide unit at 314-444-5371.

We are not releasing the Security Guard's name at this time out of respect for his family and awaiting an official statement.

We ask that no one comment on his name, but please pray for this family.

A Go-Fund Me account will be established for the family. The Sullivan Independent News has learned they do not have any life insurance on the married father of two.

We will provide updates when they become available. There will be more in this week's Sullivan Independent News, website and Missouri Possum Streaming Radio, beginning at 6 a.m. Monday.

Missouri Possum Radio can be found in the Apple App Store or Google Play.
