Second Annual Armed Forces Day Saturday At Heartland Farms

Heartland Farms, 8289 North Service Road, Bourbon, will host its second annual Armed Forces Day on Saturday, May 18, from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a full day of events and fun for all ages, according to co-owner Jeff Lock.

“This is an event we came up with doing to celebrate Armed Forces Day and pay tribute to all branches of our military in conjunction with National Armed Forces Day,” said Lock. “We hope to continue to build on this event each year, with plans to add a parade in downtown Bourbon possibly next year prior to starting our event.”

Lock indicated that their will be some military soldiers and equipment on the grounds for the events that kick off at 1 p.m. Family activities, food and beverages will be available, Alderwood, a local music favorite, will perform for those attending from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., followed by a lantern glow at 8:45 p.m. and a fireworks show to conclude around 9 p.m.

John Stillman, a Vietnam War veteran, will be signing copies of his book “Jumping From Helicopters” that he co-authored with his daughter, Lori.

“If the weather and wind cooperate we will once again work too have a lantern glow. That is a perfect way for us to help bring the event to its conclusion Saturday night, along with the fireworks display,” said Lock. “The lanterns are biodegradable and provide an awesome view for those attending and a way to pay tribute to our military.”

Tickets for the event are $25 for adults in advance that include a lantern, $30 at door; children 3-15 are $10 in advance and $15 at door, with children under 2 admitted free.

Parking for the event is $5. All proceeds are being donated to H.E.R.O.E.S., a nonprofit organization that helps active military families in their time of need.

“We hope that if the event makes a profit that we will donate all profits to H.E.R.O.E.S. fund as well,” said Lock. “Once again, we look to grow this event and be able to make a bigger impact with our donation efforts.”
