The Rainbow Room Opens In Sullivan, Bringing Creative Community Classroom

The Rainbow Room, 22 Taylor Street, opened its doors to the public on Thursday, Feb. 15, bringing what owner Jeannie Mullens calls, “A Creative Community Classroom for Lifetime Learning and Sharing, Health and Growth.”

Following six months of planning and development Mullens was pleased to bring her vision to reality as The Rainbow Room opened a chance for residents to learn lost arts before they are gone.

“I was a teacher many years ago and found myself wanting to get back into teaching,” said Mullens. “There are a lot of arts that are getting lost or forgotten in our world today and I felt a need to help bring these arts back and get people involved, again before they are gone.”

Mullens stated that The Rainbow Room is a learning and sharing center for everyone of all ages and if someone has a skill or hobby that they love they are invited to come share with others the talents and gift they have.

The Rainbow Room is looking for teachers, mentors or volunteers to teach dance, music, arts and crafts, history, philosophy, genealogy, health and nutrition, community based projects, poetry, literature, wiring, woodworking, construction, math, computers, science, technology, games, cards, chess or allow workshop/classes/groups to provide classes on local history, arts and crafts, essential oils, meditation, yoga, crystals, rocks and stones, foreign languages, animal care, wholistic healthy farming, reading, writing, journaling, improvement classes, acting for beginners, astrology, numerology and enneagram. They are also looking for individuals to volunteer to be a local hero providing an explorer club, homework helpers, “Plant It Forward” gardening and fundraising for all.

The Rainbow Room also offers building rental to those looking for classroom space for their groups along with classes they currently offer.

“People seem to not be engaging with others anymore and things are getting lost,” said Mullens. “We are hoping to bring people back together in our community and learn through the space we are offering.

Mullens stated that The Rainbow Room is working with the Sullivan Arts Council on events and projects as they move forward.

The Rainbow Room offers several classes now and is open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Basic door membership is $25 for 30 days and basic open door walk-in price is $5 per class.

Some of the current classes and activities in operation now include: Meditation for Relaxation, Mindfulness Meditation, Color Me Calm, Sing-a-Long, Sharing Circle/What’s Your Story?, Art with Zach, Card Party and Board Gamers.
