Public Hearing On Medical Marijuana Zoning June 25

The Sullivan Planning and Zoning Commission will host a public hearing on Tuesday, June 25, at 6 p.m. in the council chambers regarding proposed recommendations for zoning for Medical Marijuana facilities that will open as part of Amendment 2 that passed in November 2018.

The Medical Marijuana legislation is moving the program forward with operations to begin in the near future.

The commission and city staff have been addressing the matter over the last several weeks with the recommendations being made will fulfill the requirements ro allow for Medical Marijuana facilities while at the same time offer a buffer zone for schools, churches, and day care facilities.

The current recommendations to be presented to the public on Tuesday night June 25 include:

1. Allow Medical Marijuana Cultivation Facilities to be within the M-1 zoning district with a conditional use permit. Permissible Use Table 25.000 Commercial greenhouse and horticultural operations, new use #25.300;

 2. Allow Medical Marijuana Dispensary Facilities to be within the C-4 zoning district with a conditional use permit. Permissiable Use Table 2.000 Sales and rental of goods, merchandise and equipment. New use #2.300; 

3. Allow Medical Marijuana-Infused Products Manufacturing Facilities to be within the M-1 zoning district with a  conditional use permit. Permissible Use Table 4.000 Manufacturing, processing, creating, repairing, renovating, painting, cleaning, assembling of goods, merchandise and equipment. New use # 4.300; 

4. Allow Medical Marijuana Testing Facilities to be located within the M-1 zoned district with a conditional use permit. Permissible Use Table 4.000 Manufacturing, processing, creating, repairing, renovating, painting, cleaning, assembling of goods, merchandise and equipment. New use #4.400;

5. Allow the 1,000 ft. buffer from an existing elementary or secondary school, child day-care center or a church.

The public hearing is being held to receive public comments on the suggested zoning requirements and the public is encouraged to attend the meeting.
